Anthony Wu is one of Canada’s premier Asian Art specialists. He is a consultant and researcher for various auction houses, museums, and private clients in Canada and the USA.
With an emphasis on Chinese art and antiques, including Chinese porcelain and Chinese paintings, his company Anthony Wu Art Consultants also specializes in the arts of Japan, Korea, the Himalayas, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Islamic World.
Anthony was the Asian Art department head for two of Canada’s largest regional auction houses. With over fifteen years of experience, he has sold over 25 million CAD worth of Asian Art and set numerous Asian Art auction records in Canada. He specializes in the identification, appraisal and detailed research of Asian artworks and has his sales results published in the Asian Art periodicals Arts of Asia and Orientations.
Even though his company is based in Toronto, Anthony frequently travels across Canada and the USA to meet with clients and institutions. In addition, he keeps up-to-date with the Asian Art market by attending auction previews and sales at major international auction houses in New York, London, and Hong Kong. Anthony also owns one of the largest amateur Asian Art libraries in Toronto, with a focus on auction and museum catalogues.
Anthony has a B.A. and M.A. in Art History from the University of Toronto. He is a Certified Member with the Appraisers Association of America and is USPAP compliant through January 2025.
He is also a consultant and official Asian Art blogger for the New York based auction platform Bidsquare.com, a regular contributor to Orientations Magazine in Hong Kong, and on the board member with the Gardiner Museum, the Canadian Association of Personal Property Appraisers and the Canadian Society of Decorative Arts. His goal is to provide excellent customer service based on the requirements of his clients – whether it is identifying, selling or acquiring Asian Art pieces.
Anthony is fluent in Cantonese Chinese, and has a working knowledge of Mandarin Chinese and French.
